Processamento e análise de imagens

O IDOR desenvolve pesquisas em radiologia pulmonar avançada, usando desde técnicas tradicionais como a tomografia até exames mais modernos como o PET-CT para coletar imagens morfológicas e funcionais, que permitem uma análise da atividade celular in vivo. Uma das principais aplicações destes estudos é a avaliação de inflamação nos pacientes com tuberculose, câncer e outras doenças que afetam os pulmões.

Em interseção com a área neurociências, imagens obtidas por ressonância magnética funcional são aliadas a softwares e outros recursos tecnológicos para diversas investigações sobre o cérebro, que estudam desde malformações adquiridas ou congênitas, como a agenesia do corpo caloso, até o comportamento cerebral em relação a assuntos cotidianos, como altruísmo, crenças e pertencimento de grupo.

A equipe também trabalha no desenvolvimento de técnicas de inteligência artificial para avaliação de tomografias. Um estudo recentemente publicado nesta linha se valeu da inteligência artificial para quantificar a presença de doença pulmonar intersticial em pacientes com esclerose sistêmica. A pesquisa comparou exames de um grande número de pacientes e de pessoas saudáveis para desenvolver um método capaz de reconhecer e quantificar a doença pulmonar intersticial. Uma das principais vantagens do método é reduzir o peso da subjetividade do profissional que analisa as imagens na avaliação dos casos.
