A grande capilaridade da RDSL é peça chave, também, da pesquisa do IDOR na área de hematologia, pois o substancioso volume de pacientes viabiliza, por exemplo, a realização de pesquisas com doenças pouco frequentes e o desenvolvimento de estudos que demandam grandes quantidades de dados.
Nesse sentido, a equipe de hematologia desenvolve estudos com dados do mundo real (real world data), que usam inteligência artificial para analisar os desfechos de milhares de pacientes e traduzir os resultados em avanço científico e melhoria do atendimento em saúde. Trabalhos com esse foco ajudam a entender o comportamento das drogas para além dos ensaios clínicos controlados, a partir da observação do que acontece no dia a dia dos hospitais, em situações que fogem aos protocolos.
Para além dos ensaios clínicos com novas moléculas, o IDOR vem se consolidando como centro de referência na pesquisa em terapias celulares, tendo participado de ensaios clínicos com terapias inovadoras como CarT-Cell para linfomas resistentes aos tratamentos atualmente disponíveis. Nessa nova proposta terapêutica, os pacientes são tratados com suas próprias células – mais especificamente, linfócitos T – que são coletadas e modificadas geneticamente para expressar receptores que reconhecem e atacam as células tumorais. A expertise adquirida em ensaios clínicos como esse permitirão ao IDOR, no futuro, desenvolver outras propostas de terapia celular.
